After working in the vacation industry for almost a decade and knowing all of the business owners personally – we have tried to compile the most comprehensive list of things to do in Eureka Springs, Ar.


They call it “the Extraordinary Escape” for a  reason – In Eureka Springs you can escape the city and experience a real adventure beginning with where you will stay.  You can stay in a Haunted hotel, a Hobbit cave or even a treehouse with a private outdoor shower.   Once you have your lodging arranged, there is no shortage of things to do in Eureka Springs and many of the fun adventurous things are free or almost free.

You can track down all of the Natural springs that made the town famous – or visit the awe inspiring Thorncrown Chapel in the Beautiful Arkansas Woods.  You can Hike around the beautiful Lake Leatherwood park.

There are wonderful attractions that are great for the whole family like the turpentine Creek wildlife refuge and the Promised land zoo.   For couples wanting a romantic weekend escape – you might stay in one of the tree house cabins and start your escape with a massage at the New Moon Spa – then  eat at one of the fantastic restaurants like the Bavarian Inn , and then finish the night off with an evening of Mystery at Intrigue Theater with the Illusionist & the Ghost talker.

The next day if you are feeling adventurous you can explore Onyx Cave Park or Cosmic Caverns  – which are two of the amazing caves of Eureka Springs.   If the weather is nice can go swimming in the beautifully clear Beaver lake or go hiking around Lake Leatherwood.

If you are traveling to town for the unique preserved landscape of bygone times – you will enjoy exploring places like the Quigley castle or America’s Most haunted hotel – the Crescent Hotel.

What are the Best things to do when in Eureka?   Well, you can start by planning to be here for more than a day or 2 – because between the great shows and attractions and the fun free activities – you will need to allow yourself the time.

Free Entertainment in Eureka Springs – at the heart of our downtown is Basin Park where there are street performers and live music – this is where performances take place during the many music festivals through out the year!

Finding all the natural Springs!The Springs that made the town famous and in its hey day – they were heralded as have healing powers and the population of the town exploded to 10,000 making it the4th largest city in Arkansas.   You will need a car to see them all – we suggest going to the Visitors Center (579 W Van Buren, Eureka Springs, AR 72632 ) and getting a map – some of the MUST SEE SPRINGS ARE  – Laundry springs, Magnetic Springs and the best one of all GROTTO SPRING.

For just 1 dollar you get great exercise and an amazing view of Eureka Springs, ARRazorback tower –  579 W Van Buren, Eureka Springs, AR 72632
For just a buck and a healthy hike up what will seem like an endless stairway to heaven – you will
get an amazing view of the Ozark mountains.  – Warning not for the faint of heart.

Awesome Shopping exploring downtown Eureka springs – Even if you don’t buy a thing, which of course we hope you will support our local artisans and unique shops – you will love prospecting the historical down town area and strolling the “Historic Loop” district.

 

Outdoor Zoos

Promised Land Zoo This Eureka springs attraction will make you think that Eureka Springs is in Missouri!   They are actually in Eagle Rock about a 10-minute drive out town – and well worth it.   You drive in your car through herds of amazing animals.  32297 Hwy 86 Eagle Rock, MO 65641

It’s not just Branson that has world class shows,  there are many theaters in Eureka Springs – home to fantastic performances great for the whole family.

Intrigue theater – This show brings visitors back to an age of INTRIGUE with an Illusionist & a Ghost Talker – Sean-Paul and Juliana Fay have produced Shows in Branson, MO and Pigeon Forge but for the last 7 years they have chosen to make Eureka Springs’ their home and create a show inspired by the haunted victorian landscape of the town.

Crescent Theater – “Not really a door” This is a fun theatrical experience written by London born actor and writer and now Eurekan Resident Keith Scales – two women in a house – one of them is a Ghost but neither one of them know…    75 Prospect, Eureka Springs, AR 72632

Flickering Tales– At America’s most Haunted hotel – guests gather around a roaring fire on the grounds of the Crescent hotel and are captivated by local lore and legend of the Ozark Region!

The Great Passion Play – The Greatest Story of all time – this epic performance has been in Eureka springs for over 40 years.  There are also many other tours and exhibits on the property!

Opera in the Ozarks – over 60 years in the making, this theater is where university theater students prepare for a theatrical career.  A cultured Opera experience in Arkansas? Who Knew?!
